5 Reasons to take lessons at Key Touch!
#1 We love our students of all ages and goals!
Are you a brand new elementary-aged student who needs a strong musical start? An adult student who wants to learn to play your favorite pieces in a relaxed and enjoyable musical atmosphere? Are you an advancing pianist who wants to take your playing to the next level? Whatever your age or goals, here at Key Touch Studio, we love our diverse group of students. We are excited about partnering with you to bring the fun, benefits, and love of music into your daily life!
#2 Your lessons are with a highly trained and specialized teacher:
-Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy and Performance
-Nationally Certified Teacher of Piano, Music Teachers National Association
Amy had the privilege of being able to earn a unique degree that coupled strong performance expectations with in-depth, intensive pedagogy training. While many higher education piano programs have a strong emphasis on performance, they often lack strong teaching training, resulting in pianists that are strong in performance, but have no idea how to approach teaching. A teacher is the key element that can make or break a student's musical interest and education, and that is why we believe it is imperative for a musical instructor to have the proper training that will allow them to teach critically, problem solve efficiently, and fully meet the needs of each student.
#3 We individualize every lesson and the overall curriculum to you!
Every student is different in their learning styles, goals, and musical strengths. Here at Key Touch Studio, we do not believe in throwing all our students into the same generic method book or curriculum plan. We strive to set a premier standard in musical education by custom planning each individual student's musical curriculum.
You will not find generic, uninspiring “let's turn to the next page” instruction in your lesson! Instead, careful planning is done weekly for each lesson, resulting in lessons that are creative, balanced, and fun. Long term goals and planning are also a priority at Key Touch Studio, and each weekly lesson is kept in view of the “big picture” musical plan for the student.
#4 We are committed to a well-rounded musical education.
We recognize that a strong musical education has many parts! We want to help you develop a balance of musical skills that will allow you to be competent and successful in your music making. Learning to read music and aural training are carefully balanced in a way that promotes pianists who have strong reading skills, but who are also aurally sensitive. We include improvisation, sight-reading, and harmonization training in our curriculum, as they are exciting skills to develop that allow you to take ownership of your music.
Our emphasis is not a strictly classical performance curriculum, but instead we love music from all genres! We balance attractive classical selections with opportunities to play music from many genres, ranging from fun popular music, to smooth jazzy pieces, to hits from favorite movies, to unique styles from around the world.
#5 We are passionate about helping you develop a healthy and natural technique.
Piano is a physical pursuit! It has rightly been said that pianists are the athletes of the small muscle groups. Too often this is ignored or glossed over in musical instruction. At Key Touch Studio, we recognize that the proper development of your musical technique is vital to your health and well being as a pianist. We value and promote the use and awareness of the whole body in musical execution. Our philosophy of technical development is rooted in principles of natural movement and stems from a correct understanding and application of our anatomy and body structure.
For beginning students, the importance of healthy playing technique cannot be over emphasized! Poor technical habits and inefficient movement are very hard to break once formed and can greatly inhibit a student's progress and even lead to injury.
